Tokoname teapots are traditional brewing vessels in Japan, dating back to the Heian Period, over 900 years ago. Locals discovered that the clay in Aichi Prefecture, Japan had special qualities that enhanced the flavors of green teas. These specially crafted teapots, still made in Tokoname city, slightly reduce the astringency commonly found in green teas. With use, Tokoname teapots gain a desirable luster inside and out, become more beautiful with age. The teapot has a fine mesh filter that keeps in most of the tealeaves.
